what to do?

I have no idea what color to paint our dining room.

We have four retro-sweet dining chairs like the ones above (they have the same upholstery too, and the wood looks exactly the same. . .oh my gosh, maybe they're T-E-A-freaking-K?) and a vintage Drexel table that matches them perfectly. That's the only furniture in the room (because frankly, no more will fit) but it's a tough call for paint color, because there's a lot of beautiful light from the French doors that will make any color look good and it's the first room you walk in to, which means its your first impression of our apartment. There is a coat hanger on one wall that stayed pretty much empty until about a month ago when it started cooling off, when it it was suddenly filled with our (*read: my) coats and scarves, and I imagine it will stay that way until July comes back (please, come back soon). The carpet is about a neutral as you can get, so no conflicts there.
I just don't want yellow. This house does weird things to yellow. . .it makes them look like a shade called "toasted oatmeal" out of a magazine called Kountry Kottage, or like we've smeared Kraft mac and cheese sauce mixed with a little primer on the walls. Trust me, we tried in the kitchen, it just didn't work.

Ok, that's that. Now, if you please. . .help!
(and thank you.)

Could you post a photo of your dining room perhaps? Windows make a big difference when it comes to painting, since more natural light = bolder colors looking beautiful.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the chairs. They're awesome.

Yes, good idea. I haven't got a good one at the moment, but when it's light tomorrow I'll snap one. It's just a set of French doors, but they let in a ton of light morning-early afternoon.

PS, glad you like the chairs. The ones we have are a little beefier. And therefore, awesomer.

ok, so yestreday was a little too hectic to take a photo, and today I'm staying in bed with something pretty awful that makes me hurt all over.

Someday you might get to see a picture.

Given the upholstery and the wood being the only other colors in the room (although, what about the tablecloth? What color are your dishes?) I'd vote for a blue like the chairs but a teeny bit lighter.

Sorry you haven't been feeling well!

Yeah, we don't use a table cloth since most of the time there are books all over the table anyway :), the carpet and windows are neutral, and our dishes are white in an attempt to show off the food rather than the tableware. I will consider blue. . . maybe with a bit more grey in it?
